"HENRY DAVID NETTLES"
Henry David Nettles was born in Nassau County Florida on January 06, 1843 to Mary & Unknown Nettles. Henry's
father passed away sometime before Henry was 4 years old and on December 15, 1847, his mother Mary remarried, Burris
Brewer. Henry was living in Camden County, Georgia in 1850 at the age of 7 with his mother & step father. Later the family
moved back to Nassau County. On May 8, 1856, Land Deeds show where Burris Brewer purchased land from John Nettles.
During the "Civil War", at the age of 18 , Henry enlisted in the Confederate States Army on October
20, 1861. He enlisted in Jacksonville, Fla. in Company B First Florida Regiment Cavalry under Captain John Haddock. Later,
in 1862, Henry was dismounted as Infantry.
On November 23, 1863, Henry was captured at "The Battle of Missionary Ridge", near Chattanooga, Tennessee.
He was cut off by the Union Army, which resulted in his capture. General Maxwell was in command of Henry's Regiment and Brigade
on this day and was also captured.
Henry was transported to "Rock Island Prison Camp" in Illinois by the Federals where he remained
until May 03, 1865. Upon his release from Rock Island, Henry was carried down the Mississippi River to Naches Mississippi
where he was exchanged and surrendered by the Confederate officer and paroled by the Federal officer. In June of 1865, Henry
