HENRY DAVID NETTLES

When Henry David Nettles was 24 years old, he married 14 year old Sarah Jane Colson. The wedding took place on December 12, 1867 in Camden County, Georgia. The couple lived in Boulogne, Fla./Nassau County their entire life.

HENRY DAVID NETTLES was born on January 6, 1843 in Nassau County, Fla. and died on July 14, 1916 in Nassau County Fla. He was 73 years old. He is buried at: Pigeon Creek Cemetery in Boulogne, Fla. On his grave there is an inscription that reads: "HE WAS FAITHFUL TO EVERY DUTY".
 
SARAH JANE COLSON was born on April 06, 1853 in Alachua County, Fla. and died on January 26, 1918 in Nassau County, Fla. She was 65 years old. She is buried at: Pigeon Creek Cemetery in Boulogne, Fla. On her grave there is an inscription that reads: "SHE WAS A KIND AND AFFECTIONATE WIFE, A FOND MOTHER AND A FRIEND TO ALL".
 
Henry Nettles & Sarah Colson had the following children:
 
1). WILLIAM FRANKLIN NETTLES - born about 1868 in Nassau County, Fla. He married IDA F. SIKES on December 30, 1886 in Nassau County, Florida.
 
2). HENRY DAVID NETTLES II - born Feb. 16, 1870 in Nassau County, Fla./died- Dec. 17, 1915 in Nassau County, Fla. Married to: JULEYAN AMANDA KNIGHT.
 
3). JAMES D. NETTLES - born about 1872 in Nassau County, Fla.
 
4). JACKSON MORGAN/MARION NETTLES - born Jan. 1877 in Nassau County, Fla./died Mar. 1937 in Charlton County, Ga. Married to: JANIE DIXON.
 
5). SARAH JANE NETTLES - born bet. 1876-1877 in Nassau County, Fla. Married to: JOHN W. SMITH.
 
6). GEORGE WASHINGTON NETTLES- born Nov. 28, 1879 in Nassau County, Fla./died- Dec. 3, 1923 in Nassau Co. Fla. Married to: MAGGIE FLORIDA ALLEN.
 
7). JOHN ERNEST NETTLES - born about 1881 in Nassau County, Fla. Married to ANNIE LEE JOHNSON
 
8). JESSIE HIRAM NETTLES - born Apr. 26, 1882 in Nassau County, Fla./died- Dec. 1, 1933 in Nassau County, Fla. Married to: ISABELL GEORGIA ALLEN.
 
9). ROBERT LEE NETTLES - born about 1884 in Nassau County, Fla./died- about 1933 in Nassau County, Fla. Married to: LEAH A. KNIGHT on March 25, 1902.
 
10). MARTHA ELIZABETH NETTLES - born Mar. 22, 1887 in Nassau County, Fla./died- Jan. 12, 1964 in Nassau County, Fla. Married to JOHN ALEXANDER KNIGHT on August 12, 1900.

"THE NETTLES FAMILY" -EARLY PIONEERS TO
BOULOGNE, FLORIDA/NASSAU COUNTY.

THE TIMES WERE HARD AND THE NETTLES FAMILY SUFFERED MANY TRAGEDIES!

1.) Between 1843 - 1847- Henry Nettles lost his father.
 
2.) November 23, 1863 - May 03, 1865- Henry Nettles was a Prisoner of War at Rock Island Prison Camp in Illinois during the Civil War. He was only 20 years old.
 
3.) Dec. 17, 1915- Henry Nettles lost his son Henry Nettles II. He was only 45 years old.
 
4.) June 4, 1917- John E. Knight/12 year old grandson of Henry Nettles dies.
 
5.) Feb. 1937- Jackson M. Nettles /Son of Henry Nettles disappears without a trace.
 
6.) Mar. 1937- about 5 weeks after Jackson M. Nettles disappeared, his son William Nettles committed suicide because he was very despondent over the mysterious disappearence of his father.
 
7.) Oct. 1937- 8 months after Jackson Nettles disappeared, skeletal remains were found in the Okefenokee Swamp. An investigation determined that the skeleton was him and that he was ill at the time he left home and evidently became lost in the woods.
 
8.) Aug. 1951-  Waudell John Nettles/30 year old grandson of Henry Nettles was shot & killed in front of his Winokur home by a State Trooper.
 
9.) July 13, 1979- Beulah Isabell Nettles/grandaughter of Henry Nettles was killed in her home. Suspicion is, that her own Common-law husband done it,or had some one else to do it.
